regards from H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth ii and the Duchess of Cambridge
One of my favorite things to do as a little girl (and as a big girl) was sitting with my mother as she shared her royal scrapbooks with me. My favorite was the one with a picture of Queen Elizabeth on the front cover. Inside the album, we looked at numerous pictures and newspaper and magazine articles of the Queen's life; pictures of her as a little girl with her sister, Princess Margaret, her parents and grandparents, and her special Corgi dogs. I found myself following my mother's footsteps, collecting pictures and newspaper articles about the royal family. I added to the collection by purchasing special edition magazines featuring the royal family and books about them. I also joined websites and blogs devoted to royal watching. I receive daily posts from regarding news on the royals. In all my many trips to England, I have seen the Queen four or five times, but never had tea with the her. However, I had tea on her back porch! Last summer while in London, I went on a tour of Buckingham Palace. The tour ended on the “back porch”—or the veranda—as you exit the palace. A café offers tea and cakes with tables overlooking the gardens. I enjoyed my cuppa and a scone (overflowing with clotted cream and fresh strawberries), even though the tea was served in a paper cup! So, yes, I had tea at Buckingham Palace, but not with the Queen! As popularity for the royal family in England was diminishing, along came Kate and William. They have given the royals a real shot in the arm and now the public can't get enough of them and their children. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are fashion icons and the clothing they wear in public sells out in minutes, not days. My passion and interest has also grown as I continue to admire the Queen, who still works full-time, and her gusto for life in her 90s! I sent the Queen a birthday card for her 90th, and a Christmas present this year! She received my latest book, The Art of Afternoon Tea, and I received a lovely letter and card telling me she was very grateful for the gift! My granddaughter, Amanda, illustrator for my children's book, and I sent Princess Charlotte our book, First Class Etiquette, for Christmas. We also received a lovely thank you letter from her Mum, Kate! So how can I not continue in my mother's legacy and be a royalist? Find More Royal News on penelope's Facebook
